Conflicting Global Population Predictions 

An article in 'The Economist' states that 'Africa's populations look set to soar by 2100'.

The article continues to explain how the population of the planet is likely to look in the coming years with some drastic changes from many countries. 10 billion is the figure they have placed on the global population by the time we enter the next century. 

The UN have released a variety of estimates on global population predictions over the years. Upon browsing the internet some more I found a graph that shows 3 different estimates for the global population produced by the UN.

The graph states that the population will be at about 9 billion by the start of the next century.

So it looks like the population will be set to continue increasing up until 2100.

Or maybe not...

An article on a renewable energy website paints a rather grim picture for the second half of the century. http://solar-e.com/articles/energy-consumption-growth/ 

The article shows that high energy consumption will result in a huge decline in population globally.

This shows that nobody really knows what the future will hold and we can only guess.
